Mesotherapy

Benefits of Mesotherapy

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy is firstly a medical treatment developed by a French physician in 1952. Mesotherapy was developed to treat human patients for chronic pain and vascular disorders and was identified as a medical specialty therapy by 1987 after the development of the French Society of Mesotherapy. By 2002, it revolutionized the world of equine veterinary care.

What Does the Mesotherapy Procedure Involve?

The treatment involves injecting a mixture of medications and vitamins into the horse’s tissues. The injection targets specific areas of the body by penetrating only four to six millimeters into the mesoderm, the middle layer of skin. Typically, we administer three rows of injections on each side of the spine, resulting in almost 300 injection sites. Despite the large number of injections, we use extremely small needles, and the therapy is safe.

Mesotherapy can generally help alleviate pain and inflammation caused by conditions such as arthritis and muscle strains. Movement medicine helps with discomfort and enhances a horse’s ability to move comfortably. Additionally, this treatment is believed to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which can improve tissue strength and flexibility. This treatment has gained popularity because it can address a wide range of overall equine health concerns.

Benefits of Equine Mesotherapy

Equine mesotherapy.
  • Targeted Pain Relief: Equine mesotherapy is a highly specialized treatment. This therapy provides targeted pain relief to horses suffering from musculoskeletal pain and discomfort. Through precise medication injections directly into the affected area, this therapy alleviates pain and promotes healing, allowing your horse to recover from injuries and perform at its best. Mesotherapy is also utilized in general health to promote fast recovery and reduce tissue compression secondary to strenuous work. Whether your horse is experiencing discomfort due to a recent injury or a chronic condition, equine mesotherapy can provide targeted relief and support your horse needs to thrive.

  • Improved Blood Flow: The specialized treatment is designed to stimulate and enhance blood circulation, providing a significant boost to the process of tissue repair and regeneration. This is particularly beneficial for horses recovering from injuries or undergoing rehabilitation, as it accelerates the healing process and helps in restoring their physical health.

  • Enhanced Performance: Many horse owners turn to equine mesotherapy to improve their performance. By supporting the health of the musculoskeletal system, horses can move more comfortably and efficiently, leading to better results in competitions and other equine activities.

  • Reduced Recovery Time: Equine mesotherapy accelerates recovery by delivering essential nutrients directly to the affected areas. This approach significantly reduces the amount of time spent on repairing the horse’s injury or discomfort. This means that performance horses can return to their routine much faster, with less interruption to their training and competition schedules.

  • Customizable Treatments: By creating a personalized treatment plan, we ensure that your horse receives comprehensive care that addresses their specific concerns. Based on findings and goals, your veterinarian can produce a tailored mixture to apply with mesotherapy.

How Often Should My Horse Receive Mesotherapy?

The number of treatments required for a horse with discomfort that could be treated by mesotherapy is dependent on several factors, including:

  • Overall condition of the horse

  • The cause of the horse’s pain

  • Severity of pain

  • Persistence of the problem

After undergoing one or two treatments, the full effect of the treatment should be visible within 7 to 10 days. The decision on whether the horse will require the procedure to be repeated depends on its overall individual needs.
